What is fobbing in carbonated filling?

Fobbing is a practical production problem where excessive foam or product escapes during or immediately after filling.

Common contributors include warm product, unstable pressure, high carbonation for the package, rough product flow, a delayed closure handoff, unsuitable fill settings or a product recipe that foams readily. The first step is to record the conditions rather than adjust the machine blindly.

  1. Stabilise product conditions.

    Confirm that the filled pack is capped, crowned or seamed quickly enough for the product and package.

  4. Record the result.

    Photograph the filled packs and note rejects, foam height and operator adjustments.

The solution might be a counter-pressure route, a different valve sequence, a tighter filler-to-closer interface, colder product handling, upstream product preparation or a slower accepted output. For oxygen-sensitive drinks, the foam-management approach should also be considered alongside DO or TPO measurement rather than in isolation.
