Product temperature and chiller control for carbonated filling.

Product temperature is one of the strongest practical variables in carbonated filling because it affects CO₂ retention, foam behaviour and the time needed for a stable fill.

Carbonated drinks are usually easier to fill when the product reaches the filler at a stable, suitably low temperature for the product and carbonation target. If the drink warms between the tank, chiller, carbonator and filler, dissolved CO₂ is more likely to break out as foam, slowing the fill and creating inconsistent presentation.

The correct temperature target depends on the drink, carbonation level, container, line layout and machine configuration. The compact LUCF4A isobaric can-filler reference data on the first-party Liquid Fillers site lists product temperature around 1–4 °C, but other projects must be confirmed from the actual product and equipment scope.

Can a chiller fix every foaming problem?

No. Lower temperature can help, but foam can also come from carbonation level, valve setup, pressure release, container shape, dirty or damaged packs, transfer turbulence or closure timing.

Where should temperature be measured for a filler quote?

The most useful value is product temperature at the filler inlet during the intended production condition. Tank temperature alone may be misleading if the product warms during transfer.

Does a carbonated filler need its own chiller?

Not always. Some projects use existing chilled product or a separate carbonator/chiller. The quotation should state what is included and what the site must provide.
