Product preparation

Carbonator and mixer to filler integration.

For many soft drink and RTD projects, the filler is only one part of the route; mixing, chilling and carbonation must also be considered.

A soda, tonic, sparkling water or RTD line may include syrup mixing, water treatment by others, chilling, carbonation, balance holding and filling. The more of that scope included in the project, the more important it is to define incoming water, syrup, carbonation target, temperature and controls integration.

MixingClarify whether syrup, flavouring or alcohol blending happens before the filling equipment.
CarbonationState the target carbonation and how it is currently measured or controlled.
ChillingConfirm product temperature at the filler inlet and any heat gain during transfer.
ControlsIdentify whether existing tanks, pumps or sensors need to communicate with the filler line.
Quality checksBrix, carbonation, fill level, closure and appearance may all form part of acceptance.
  • Review whether the carbonator has enough capacity for the target filler output.
  • Check whether the product is held under pressure between carbonation and filling.
  • Confirm whether product recovery or changeover between flavours is important.
  • Discuss cleaning requirements for both preparation and filling areas.

For early-stage brands, it is common to start with a compact filling route and expand into a fuller line later. The important point is to define the future route so today’s machine choice does not block tomorrow’s growth.

Buyer questions

Questions to resolve before specification.

Does a filler carbonate the drink?

Not always. Some systems include an integrated mixing/carbonation route, while others expect prepared carbonated product from upstream equipment.

Should Brix be discussed for soda lines?

Yes where syrup or concentrate is involved, because product preparation quality affects final drink consistency.

Can an existing carbonator be used?

Possibly, but output, controls, pressure, temperature and cleaning interfaces must be checked.

What should I ask for in the quotation?

Ask for a clear scope showing which parts of mixing, carbonation, filling, capping/seaming and conveying are included.

Ready to specify the route?

Send the product, package and output details.

Lancing can review the drink type, carbonation target, container, closure or seam route, target output, utilities and site requirements before recommending the machinery path.
